Harmony Day

Harmony day is managed by the Department of Emigration and Citizenship (DIAC). It was launched in 1999, and originally involved primary-school aged children and community groups. Over the years, the event has been expanded to involve the wider community. Harmony Day is celebrated on 21st March in Australia, coinciding with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Harmony day is an opportunity for everyone to come together and participate in local activities.
Harmony day’s message is ‘Everyone belongs’. It is about community participation, inclusiveness, celebrating diversity, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone – celebrating the cultures that make Australia a great place to live. The colour which was chosen to represent Harmony Day is orange. Australians are encouraged to wear something orange to show their support for cultural diversity.
In 2012, the theme for harmony day is Sport - play, engage, inspire, recognising the important role and positive influence that sport has in Australia. The aim was to encourage everyone, regardless of background, to participated in the sports activities, increased understanding and to be inspired.

Many sportsmen and women cheat nowadays!!!

Why does everyone cheat and nobody plays the game??? From my point of view cheating is an extremely bad and immoral way of achieving the goal. Some people usually bend the rules to make more money or to become popular.
There are a lot of examples how sportsmen and women cheat. Some of them take money to change the results, which is so unfair. Diving, doping, denying a handball or match-fixing are common ways to cheat and deceive in soccer. All of us know that Diego Maradona, who is one of the most famous soccer players, used his hand to punch the ball into the goal and therefore Argentina won the 1986World Cup. Furthermore, athletes use steroids and cheat on drug tests. The same things happen in the cycling.
I feel that cheaters are by no means winners and they must be punished.

Clean Up Australia Day

Clean Up Australia Day is a national day as well as one of the most popular events in Australia and is held on the first Sunday of March every year.  It is an action to clean up, fix up and protect our environment.
Clean Up Australia Day is a project by Clean Up Australia, that is an environmental organisation founded by Ian Kiernan and Kim McKey in 1989. It includes other projects and campaigns such as: Business Clean Up Day, School Clean Up Day, Clean Up the Alps, Clean Up the Kimberley and Clean Up the World. The organisation tries to resolve the issues of waste, water and climate change.
Clean Up Australia Day was first held in January 1900 and was sat up by the then Prime Minister, Bob Hawke.  The idea was born out of an Australian Bicentenary Event, ”Clean –Up Lake Macquari” which was instigated in 1987 by Ivan Welsh as Mayor of Lake Macquarie. Everyone can  get involved. You can register at a place they plan to clean up, on the Clean Up Australia website or by calling 1800 282 329.  Although you will receive Clean Up bags and gloves.
Furthermore there are several ways you can support Clean Up Australia Day: become part of YOU – a major community sponsor for Clean Up Australia Day 2012 comprised of individual and business supporters, or if you can’t make it out on Clean Up Australia Day, support your family, friends or colleagues in different way.
