Clean Up Australia Day

Clean Up Australia Day is a national day as well as one of the most popular events in Australia and is held on the first Sunday of March every year.  It is an action to clean up, fix up and protect our environment.
Clean Up Australia Day is a project by Clean Up Australia, that is an environmental organisation founded by Ian Kiernan and Kim McKey in 1989. It includes other projects and campaigns such as: Business Clean Up Day, School Clean Up Day, Clean Up the Alps, Clean Up the Kimberley and Clean Up the World. The organisation tries to resolve the issues of waste, water and climate change.
Clean Up Australia Day was first held in January 1900 and was sat up by the then Prime Minister, Bob Hawke.  The idea was born out of an Australian Bicentenary Event, ”Clean –Up Lake Macquari” which was instigated in 1987 by Ivan Welsh as Mayor of Lake Macquarie. Everyone can  get involved. You can register at a place they plan to clean up, on the Clean Up Australia website or by calling 1800 282 329.  Although you will receive Clean Up bags and gloves.
Furthermore there are several ways you can support Clean Up Australia Day: become part of YOU – a major community sponsor for Clean Up Australia Day 2012 comprised of individual and business supporters, or if you can’t make it out on Clean Up Australia Day, support your family, friends or colleagues in different way. Donate to their Clean Up Site to make it the most successful fundraising Site or purchase Clean Up items from Clean Up Online Store.
